The 996 changed the DNA of the 911. This new 911 was the bench mark for future generations. The air-cooled flat 6 in the previous generations was swapped for a more powerful and freer revving water-cooled engine in the 996. This decision has set the tone for the last 22 years of 911 models, from 1999 to today. The 996 features a 3.6 litre flat 6 engine producing 320bhp along with a manual gear box and 4 wheel drive. The difference between the normal 2S and 4S is that the 4S features the upgraded turbo suspension and body styling with the flared arches and re-designed front bumper.
